Module Description:Essential skills for engaging in research covering all stages of research from finding a research question to research methodologies, to writing dissertation and publishing.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to
  1. Expertly describe the different stages that make up a research project
  2. Demonstrate how to write a research proposal
  3. Critical review of data collection methods
  4. Appraisal of research methodologies
  5. Demonstrate the different types of dissemination for project reports and results.
  6. Appraisal of ethical approaches in research

Indicative Content
Research Degree Process
Search for a research question, writing a research proposal, scheduling of workloads and delivery, feedback and progress reports, submission requirements, dissemination, examination.
Research Project Content
Overview of research process, proposal, literature review, research questions, methodologies, data collection and analysis, interpretation of the research finding, summary and conclusions. Limitations of research.
Ethics of Research
Ethical considerations underpinning research, research and trust, central ethical issues, how to conduct research, evidence collection, plagiarism, publications.
Research methods
Importance, issues and scope, research question challenges, research strategy, theoretical vs empirical, qualitative vs quantitative, data collection methods, measurement, survey and review, Research tactics.
Dissemination of Results
Writing reports, presentation posters and talks, dissertations, research papers for conferences and journals, web and social media, books.
