Module Description:The aims of this module are to: • Develop the students’ understanding of the technologies and processes involved in website development • Advance the development of the students’ practical web authoring skills, including controlling the presentation of webpages and forms • Develop the students’ knowledge of current web standards
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to
  1. Describe and demonstrate practices for controlling the presentation of web pages
  2. Describe and implement different strategies for controlling the layout of web pages
  3. Demonstrate how to design, implement, style and validate HTML forms

Indicative Content
HTML Structural Markup
• HTML5 tags (header, footer, aside, nav etc.) • Block and inline elements • Generic elements (divs and span)
• Divs, IDs, Classes • The box model (width, padding, border and margin)
• Pseudo-classes • Styling navigation bars • Using image sprites
Controlling Layout with CSS
• Normal flow • Floating • Positioning (fixed, relative, absolute, contextual) • Page layouts strategies • Fixed and fluid layouts • Multi-columnar layouts • Templates for pages layout
HTML Forms
• Using forms for data input • The form element • POST and GET • Form controls (text fields, buttons, menus)
